KATHERINE BENNERT
Hello!
Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Katherine Bennert, and I am currently a Junior majoring in Communications and Media with a minor in Writing. I began the wonderful journey of starting my writing career at the University of Michigan. I am so excited to share all of my passion projects with you!
Welcome To My Portfolio!
I am so happy you are here! To begin, I wanted to share a little bit about myself. First and foremost, I am a current student at the University of Michigan, so go blue! I have lived in Michigan most of my life with my wonderful family and dog, Milo. However, I have also lived in Texas and Florida and miss the heat daily, especially during the winter. During the Pandemic, I dabbled in baking and painting, both of which I adore as hobbies. I also enjoy traveling, and so far my favorite place I've ever visited is San Juan, Puerto Rico. I love watching 2000s Rom-coms, playing Scattergories, going on long walks, baking, and listening to copious amounts of Taylor Swift and Abba. Also, as you can probably guess, I love to read. My favorite books include Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom and If We Were Villains by M.L Rio. Reading has always inspired me to try writing, even in a casual way, and to experiment with my own words on a daily basis. I am so glad that I decided to minor in writing, as these new classes have genuinely allowed me to explore different techniques and styles. Writing has been a great outlet for expressing myself and learning how to articulate myself better in various circumstances. I cannot wait to further my writing career even more and take all of my skills into my years beyond college.
The Beginning
For my origin piece, I decided to experiment with an essay I wrote during the college admissions process, where I talked about my name and its implications. This was a very personal essay for me as I have always had complex feelings towards my given name, and exploring this thought would make for an exciting project. First, I turned this short essay into a long stanza poem, which was then turned into a satirical co-hosted podcast, and then finally inspired this webpage. I hope you enjoy my completed final project, and all of the bumps along the way to get here! If you have any further comments or questions feel free to reach out, as I would love to hear any and all ideas!
Thank you for visiting!
This has been an excellent opportunity for me to venture out of my comfort zone and find my niche within the writing community. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
